What are some skills/competencies (NACE) that you developed during your internship?
I learned a lot about the pharmaceutical industry. Specifically, I now know the terminology commonly used, how to write monographs, how to analyze clinical trial data, the money flow in pharma, how to develop research proposals, and more!
How does this experience connect to your future career goals?
Throughout my internship, I have learned so many valuable skills regarding the pharmaceutical industry and the challenges associated with market access. This internship has helped me identify what aspects of the industry I am most interested in, and can see myself thriving in for my future career. I am a mathematics and health studies double major with a minor in statistics. With this, my college coursework has helped me develop a strong quantitative background, while also understanding healthcare and its complexities in the U.S. and abroad. For my future career, I plan to use mathematical models and quantitative data analysis to help combat health inequalities and access to affordable healthcare through biostatistical research. My time at Ashfield has been a perfect compliment to my college career thus far. Spending the summer identifying emerging health issues, learning the drug development process, and comprehending the economic considerations impacting pharmacy coverage has continued to pique my interests.
