Some of the skills I picked up while working at the Worcester Court Service Center was effective communication,
understanding and empathising with a wide range of different litigants. While also expressing myself in a clear and
concise manner. Another skill I picked up, is analysis, understanding what problems the litigants were dealing with
and how the court service could help them.
This experience helped me to understand that a still want to become a lawyer, however family law would not be
the field of law that I would want to join. After a spending the summer dealing with a wide range of family law
issues, such as divorces, child custody etc, family law was definitely a lot to handle. Yet, real estate or business law
would be interesting field of law that I could see myself working in if I decide to go down a career in law.
Working at the Worcester Court Service Center was truly an amazing experience because there so many different
fields of law that you can learn about. Although the majority of the cases you deal with, tend to be family law, that
doesn’t mean that you won’t learn about the other fields of laws. The lawyers at the Worcester CSC are more than
happy to help with any questions that you have and more than willing to talk about their owns experiences and
advice they have for going into the field of law. Another added benefit to this experience is the work that you do at
the CSC actually makes a difference, the CSC truly helps people who are in need, and although most of the time you
are calling people and helping them to fill out paperwork, you are still learning about how the law works from a first
hand perspective.
