Oral/Written Communication: Whether it was learning to communicate with my boss as she was in Ghana or working with

clients, I was pushed to work on these skills. In terms of written skills, I am working on producing our agency’s second quarterly newsletter

which will be released to our clients. I also worked on publishing social media posts that are helpful and informative. As for oral

communication, I have been conducting individual zoom meetings with three of the agency’s families waiting to adopt domestically.

Because these families are going through an incredibly emotional and difficult journey of waiting to start a family, this communication can

often be challenging. It has taught me how to lead important conversations by being sensitive and a good listener.

Global/Intercultural Fluency: Because New Hope for Children is both a domestic and international adoption agency, I have

learned from many diverse experiences. Internationally, I have become more familiar with Ghana and their culture. It was amazing to learn

more about the adoption process in Ghana and also incredibly impactful to learn more about the experiences of young orphans in-country.

My work on domestic adoption has given me insight into the struggles of starting a family that many people face. I have also become more

familiar with the challenges that many women face with unexpected pregnancy. Learning of these different experiences has taught me to

communicate with understanding and sensitivity.

Future Career Goals

Working at New Hope for Children confirmed for me that I would like to pursue a career in the nonprofit sector. I find the work incredibly

rewarding. I am most interested in social justice causes. I hope to find employment that aligns with my passions and beliefs. As New Hope

taught me, working with passionate, hardworking, and good people makes the workday so much better!

Advice for Holy Cross Students

Don’t be afraid to explore and apply for a diverse range of internships. This is a great time to try something new. Who knows, you may find

a new passion or career-path. Be open to opportunities you never envisioned for yourself.
