What are some skills/competencies that you developed during your internship?
One of the main goals I sought to achieve during this internship was further developing professional skills in
communication, writing, and proficiency in software systems. Over the duration of this internship I was
successful in improving skills such as communicating with superiors both verbally and in writing, as well as
the use of software programs such as Microsoft Excel and Altru, programs utilized by many non-profits.
How does this experience connect to your future career goals?
From my experience in the development department I have a new found desire to explore opportunities after
graduation at other non-profit museums in departments that engage with donors, visitors, and their
members.
What advice would you give to other Holy Cross students?
Prior to this internship I thought I knew exactly what I wanted to do after graduation, however this
experience completely changed that future plan. As an intern you are surrounded by senior and junior staff
who have each taken a unique path to get to where they are, so be sure to ask questions and learn their
stories. This will reinforce that there is no one right way to get to your desired career path, it may even be
disguised as an opportunity you would not have considered. So take advantage of every opportunity you are
given, and express your willingness to work on projects and initiatives that you find interesting.
