What are some skills/competencies (NACE) that you developed during your internship?
This internship allowed me to further develop my communication and collaboration skills as well as
gaining valuable experience with public relations and operations management.
How does this experience connect to your future career goals?
This experience connects to my future goals because I love the sports industry and generally enjoy
being around sports. And it was interesting to look at sports from an operation standpoint too.
At the beginning of the season, I had the chance to participate in an audit for the director of corporate
development for the entire CCBL. My responsibilities involved visiting all ten ballparks and making
sure the sponsors of the league got what they were paying for. This included making sure that each team
mentioned all of the sponsors for their very own team and the league over the PA system during their
broadcasts of the games. This also included making sure that banners with the sponsors logos on them
were hung up somewhere around the field. I would then tell my boss what innings certain sponsors were
mentioned in and send him pictures of the banners that were hung up around the field. If a team did not
follow the instructions, my boss would then let each team know. I also had to be undercover, as no one
could know that I was the league audit intern
What advice would you give to other Holy Cross students?
The advice I’d give to HC students is to keep all your options when doing internship! And to be
proactive, because what you put into it, you’ll get out of it.
