1) What are some skills/competencies (NACE) that you developed during your internship?
Throughout my remote internship, I developed various skills and competencies that I will continue to expand on in my academic and professional careers. My oral and written communication skills increased though communicating with the Daybreak team and through building relationships and setting up calls with potential partners. I strengthened my organizational and analytical skills though managing and creating templates for, and presenting research. Finally, I improved my collaboration skills through working with the other Holy Cross interns and the Daybreak team and learned how to manage a project and ask for other’s advice and support throughout the project.
2) How does this experience connect to your future career goals?
This experience strengthened my goal to go to medical school and gave me a new perspective on the medical and public health field. I learned a lot about what our country needs moving forward in medicine through technology and striving for more widespread accessibility to healthcare. This drive and new understanding of what the field needs moving forward is the passion for medicine I will use throughout my medical school interviews and will aid in determining what forward facing companies I want to work for in the future.
3) What advice would you give to other Holy Cross students?
I would encourage other Holy Cross students to apply for an internship that you might not think you have a chance at getting. I would also encourage them to not be shy throughout their internship to let their passion and determination shine. For the first few weeks of my internship I did not speak up as much as I should have and I found that when I did become comfortable with my team and other interns the experience started to give back to me as much as I was giving to them.
