1) What are some skills/ competencies (NACE) that you developed during your internship
In preparation for the internship I learned Python and MATLAB which were the primary computer languages used in the analysis and research. I learned a lot about machine learning, specifically, deep learning and its application in biomedical imaging.
2) How does this experience connect to your future career goals
This fall I am starting classes at Columbia University where I am pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering (EE). Biomedical imaging is a subset of Biomedical Engineering which utilizes Electrical Engineering concepts. EE is a very broad field thus it’s important to take advantage of any opportunity to be exposed to different disciplines. This will help me narrow down my interests and determine potential career paths.
3) What advice would you give other Holy Cross Students
Do not be afraid to take internships and jobs that may seem to be outside of your field of interest, you never know what you might learn about that new field and your interests. Also do not shy away from an opportunity if your experience isn’t an exact fit as you may have baseline skills that will help you be successful as you learn the new skills an organization is seeking.
