1) What are some skills/competencies (NACE) that you developed during your internship?
Through this internship, I have learned the intricacies of bankruptcy law and how best to discuss it with expert clerks and judges in the field. I have learned how the US court system works from “behind the scenes” and have learned what goes into the process of writing a case for the record. I have also learned about the court precedent that determines how or if student loan debt is forgiven, and the intricacies involved in employing the “Brunner Test” when deciding a case.
2) How does this experience connect to your future career goals?
I have been interested in potentially going to law school in the future, and have joined Holy Cross clubs like Moot Court to try to determine if I have an interest in law. This internship allowed me to be privy to many of the important discussions and hearings of the court that affect real people and businesses. This internship allowed me to understand if I would enjoy working in law through practical experience, rather than simulated experience, which will be instrumental in helping me find my career path.
3) What advice would you give to other Holy Cross students?
Even though the world is operating in large part through conference call and Zoom, you can still make a happy and friendly work environment with your fellow interns and co-workers, even if, for the time being, this must be done virtually.
