1) What are some skills/competencies (NACE) that you developed during your internship?
During my short time at Edward Street I have been able to develop my skills as a writer in a professional setting. I have also been able to practice a little bit of my presentation and public speaking skills, through this practice I have been able to become more clear and concise in my public speaking.
2) How does this experience connect to your future career goals?
Throughout my time at Holy Cross my future career goals have changed drastically, but in my junior year I became more aware of my interest in education. This internship has given me the opportunity to have hands on experience in the early childhood education and care which has shaped my idea of what a career in education can look like. This experience has brought me to the realization that I would prefer to work on the policy and advocacy side of education rather than teaching.
3) What advice would you give to other Holy Cross students?
If you are given the opportunity to intern with Edward Street, get excited! It is going to be a great experience. My one piece of advice is to not be afraid to ask questions or join in the conversation during meetings. Your opinion is often times considered a fresh perspective to a group of people who have been working together for a while.
