1) What are some skills/competencies (NACE) that you developed during your internship?
I developed expanded collaborative skills across teams working on different aspects of a larger project, with increased awareness of the multitude of moving parts behind the scenes of major Special Olympics events. My written communications skills were also honed towards a professional setting with my work on press releases and newsletter articles.
2) How does this experience connect to your future career goals?
This experience partially cemented for me my desire to enter the nonprofit world, and put my personal/professional skills towards a mission-driven organization such as Special Olympics. Furthermore, the direct translation of my writing ability towards a Marketing/Communications position would be an even more significant means with which to put my abilities towards a larger mission and social good.
3) What advice would you give to other Holy Cross students?
I would recommend that other Holy Cross students take advantage of the opportunities that the school puts before us. Programs like the Crusader Internship Fund have the ability to open up new avenues for personal and professional growth. For smaller organizations like Special Olympics Connecticut, it may not be financially feasible to take on paid interns, but thanks to the College’s support, I was able to have a very successful professional experience with this organization whose mission is so close to my heart.
