1) What are some skills/competencies (NACE) that you developed during your internship?
Through my role as a Business Intelligence Intern, I enhanced my ability to digest information from many sources and synthesize the data. Additionally, using this data on other companies and competitors in the industry, I was able to create a report regarding the success of other acquisitions in the industry and the optimum growth outcomes for the start-up.
2) How does this experience connect to your future career goals?
As someone aspiring to be a Consultant, working for a company in an industry where I have no prior background was exactly the experience I needed. In consulting, it is typical to start on cases in an industry or for a company that you are not an expert in, but it is your job to become comfortable and execute the best strategic plan for that respective company. By being exposed of the healthcare industry, I was able to learn the business development of a unique, constantly evolving industry.
3) What advice would you give to other Holy Cross students?
My biggest advice is to never waste an opportunity to expand your knowledge. Holy Cross alumni are always willing to speak and give you advice. During my internship, each week we would spend 30 minutes just discussing any business/general questions that I had–completely unrelated to the weekly responsibilities. Even though I do not anticipate working in the healthcare industry, it is always positive to take advantage of any learning opportunity.
