1) What are some skills/competencies (NACE) that you developed during your internship?
Oral / written communications: Much of my work revolved around communicating with the A&D community via social media postings. With this, I had to communicate in a visual and written format. I had to create an eye grabbing post and then pair that with appropriate verbiage to aid the overall message of the post.
Digital technology: All of my work was done in digital space. I was tasked with constructing the company’s presence on Pinterest from scratch; this involved leaning about the Pinterest algorithm and the business side of the platform in order to best set up the company’s page. I also continued working on their instagram and furthering a series that features one of their colors each month.
Global / intercultural fluency: I had to understand what was needed for the various markets across the globe. Universal Fibers is an international company with a presence in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. With this, it was very important for me to understand what speaks to the customers in various regions -- something that may speak to customers in the United States does not necessarily speak to those in Europe.
2) How does this experience connect to your future career goals?
My future goals include working in a creative and collaborative atmosphere that is engaging and challenging. Following my experience this summer, I know that I want to work for a larger corporation with more moving parts, pieces, and projects. This experience connects to my future career goals in that I know that I want to be creative in whatever path I pursue.
3) What advice would you give to other Holy Cross students?
I would highly advise other Holy Cross students to take advantage and optimize the resources provided by career services while at Holy Cross. I would also encourage students to explore (in any way possible) industries and occupations they believe they may want to pursue in the future. It has been helpful to dip my toe into professional fields and figure out what I do and do not like about each.
