1) What are some skills/competencies (NACE) that you developed during your internship?
Some of the skills I acquired or improved during my internship are professionalism, communication, collaboration, and other technical skills. My position in the internship required me to work in the team. Therefore, I learned to better communicate and collaborate with my team members on various projects. Furthermore, frequent meeting with company’s CEO helped improve my professional skills as she expected best and professional representation of all work. Finally, I learned many insight into User Experience and other IT related technical skills such as HTML and AutoHotkey during my internship.
2) How does this experience connect to your future career goals?
This experience allowed me to set my future goals. It gave me understandings of my likes and dislikes. Furthermore, it allowed me to explore new area in the Information and Technology field. It also gave me insight into UX/UI field field which will be beneficial to my future jobs. Overall, it helped me in discerning the type work I want to do in the future.
3) What advice would you give to other Holy Cross students?
Internships have different experience than classroom learning experience. It teaches you new skills and helps you decide your future goals. Do not afraid to try new field or new type of work. Go out of your comfort zone to try on new roles. Internships help you learn skills that are widely and most commonly used in the work environment. Be in constant communication with your supervisor to show them you are available, willing to take on more projects and work, especially if you are in a remote internship. At the same time, pay extra attention to your mental health and do your best to find a healthy work/life balance.
