1) What are some skills/competencies (NACE) that you developed during your internship?
I am a creative writing concentration and an english major, so in college I have written primarily academic pieces, and works of fiction. This internship required me to learn the basic tenets of journalistic writing on the fly. I also had to learn the principles involved in conducting an interview — one that can be whittled down into a newsworthy story.
2) How does this experience connect to your future career goals?
When I graduate I want to enter the film industry in some capacity. Even if I can’t launch my own creative enterprise, reporting on filmmaking is a career I can see myself enjoying. Moreover, I made many connections with film journalists, other interns looking to enter the industry, as well as established actors, directors and writers.
3) What advice would you give to other Holy Cross students?
Be creative and allow yourself time to really think about what you’re doing. Think of ways to improve it and pitch them to your supervisor. For the most part, people want to help you. Let them.
