My research was predominantly focused on preparing our team for the upcoming Moot Court season. I spent the summer exploring the two constitutional issues associated with this year's American Moot Court Association case problem. Both of these issues were First amendment related—one dealing with the protections associated with freedom of speech, and the other dealing with the protections related to freedom of association. My work was largely comprised of reading Supreme Court and Federal Court cases cited by the case problem. After performing an initial read through, I dove deeper into each case in order to compile a list of relevant quotes and judicial logic that would be beneficial for argument development. As the summer progressed, and my reading drew to a close, I turned my attention to developing preliminary arguments for both constitutional issues using the information I had obtained from the court cases. The central components of these arguments can be seen in my research poster. This graphic depicts the framework and key points of each constitutional argument. The work that I did this summer will provide the groundwork for the the development and finalization of arguments that the team will undertake over the course of the Moot Court season. A very big thank you to Professor Hindman and Holy Cross for making my Research Project possible!
