Miss Fisher's First Grade

February

The month of February will be filled with celebrations! We will begin the month by learning about the history of Ground Hog's Day and weather prediction. Since the beginning of the school year, we have been using a hundreds chart to count up to the 100th Day which we will celebrate on February 12th! Then on February 14th we will celebrate Valentine's Day with a craft, valentine exchange, and snack. On February 19th we will have the opportunity to watch the 2nd Grade Chinese New Year Parade. Throughout the month we will celebrate the Presidents of the United States of America, reading stories and learning about the lives of the former presidents.

Literacy

In Literacy, we will continue working on Unit 4. This unit will focus on understanding how authors create stories. We will have the opportunity to compare and contrast stories with different types settings and characters.

There is a new spelling menu for the month of February, spelling homework may be completed at anytime during the "week" that we are working with those spelling words. Spelling homework is due the day of the spelling test. For this month we have glued our spelling menus into our journals. Please refer to the homework section of my web page for more details on spelling homework.
