About AP Language and Composition

According to the AP Course and Exam Description provided by CollegeBoard, students in this course will “cultivate their understanding of writing and rhetorical arguments through reading, analyzing, and writing texts” and “explore topics like rhetorical situation, claims and evidence, reasoning and organization” in order to write analytical, synthesis, and argumentative essays. AP Language and Composition is a junior year course designed to engage students in becoming more skilled readers of prose texts drawn from a range of periods, disciplines and rhetorical contexts.

About English 9

A foundation English course based on genre, language skills (writing, usage, vocabulary development, speech, literary analysis and interpretation) using lecture as well as collaborative-based instruction. Units will include, but are not limited to the following: short story, research, mythology, non-fiction, novel, poetry, and drama.
