COMPETITION STRUCTURE & INFORMATION

Hobsonville Point holds its very own Athletics and Cross-Country day, these events are compulsory for all students to participate. The focus for Athletics is during Term 1, whereas the focus for distance running (cross-country and road running) is through Terms 2 and 3.

Students will have the chance to earn points that go towards the “Community Competition Shield” Students who win their respective age groups can then go on to represent the Hobsonville Point at the North Harbour, with the potential to also compete at the Auckland and New Zealand competition later in the year.

UNIFORM

PE Uniform or community colours, and appropriate footwear is required. If selected to represent the school at NHSS, NISS, or NZSS competition, an athletics singlet will be issued. Running shoes or spikes are suggested for track events.

BADMINTON

COMPETITION STRUCTURE & INFORMATION

There are a number of different grades to suit all abilities in the North Harbour competition. Seniors (Y11-13) play in Term 2 and Juniors (Y9 & 10) play in Term 3. A coach from North Harbour Badminton will come in fortnightly to coach our students. Students who wish to take their Badminton to a more competitive level will have the opportunity to trial for North Harbour Representative teams.

UNIFORM

All students will need to supply their own Badminton Racquets and appropriate footwear. The school will provide a Badminton playing top for the season, but all students must wear their own shorts to games (PE shorts are preferred).

BASKETBALL

COMPETITION STRUCTURE & INFORMATION

Basketball is one of the most popular sports at Hobsonville Point. The teams are selected according to specific age groups (Under 15, 17, & 19). Basketball is played by both boys and girls with a range of abilities from beginner to competitive, some students may also be given the opportunity to play up an age group. Games are played at North Shore Events Centre, AUT, or Massey University

UNIFORM

Basketball jerseys and shorts are issued at the start of the season uniform hire is included in base of registration fee. Appropriate footwear and mouth guards are also required.

FOOTBALL

Teams are arranged according to specific age groups from junior levels which is generally Y9 & 10 and Seniors Y11-13. Football is played by both boys and girls with a range of abilities from beginner to competitive. Previously we have entered our boys team into juniors and our girls team into senior competitions with success in both leagues.

Students who play football for Hobsonville Point will be issued a football jersey and shorts at the start of the season, uniform hire is included in base of registration fee. Students are required to purchase football socks.

FUTSAL

COMPETITION STRUCTURE & INFORMATION

Futsal is a variant of football played indoors between two teams of five players each with unlimited substitutions are permitted. Futsal is also played with a smaller ball with less bounce than a regular football due to the surface of the field. The surface, ball and rules create an emphasis on improvisation, creativity, and technique as well as ball control and passing in small spaces. Futsal is newly introduced sport at the College Sport level. Hobsonville Point first entered in the boys junior grade in 2016. In 2017 we’re aiming to enter at least one team into each grade (junior boys, senior boys, and open girls).

GOLF

Competition Structure & Information:

The golfing season starts early May with the North Harbour Teams championships, followed by the Stroke play and Ambrose Tournament, which are both Individual Championships. Secondary School Golf is for the more experienced golfers, as it often requires a handicap in order to enter.

Uniform:

Students are required to wear their own club uniform. Hobsonville Point will provide all golfers with a HPSS school badge to wear. All students competing must also wear appropriate footwear.

Registration & Trial Dates:

Students who are interested in playing golf for Hobsonville Point are encouraged express interest to the Sports Department. Daily Notices will be also be used to help promote keen golfers. A specific handicap is usually required before entering into certain championships.

Fees:

Cost for attending each golf championship is $15 per student per competition. Otherwise, if entered into team championships the cost is $35 per team.

HOCKEY

Competition Structure & Information:

The competitive Hockey season runs starts Week 1, Term 2 and concludes halfway through Term 3. In the past we have both boys and girls teams competing in the North Harbour Hockey winter season. Games are mainly played at North Harbour Hockey, and Rangitoto College.

MOUNTAIN BIKING

COMPETITION STRUCTURE & INFORMATION

We have had a team of student together since 2015 now that have previously competed in the Mountain Biking series. Riders can compete as individuals and as part of a team. The best four results from each school, from any age group, will be tallied to produce the top boys and girls teams. Each race follows a multi-lap format with each lap taking approximately 15 minutes to complete for the average rider. The same course will be used by all competitors and so is designed to cater for beginners through to experienced riders. Senior competitors will complete a greater number of laps than the intermediates and juniors. The course will be marked for practice from 12pm, the Saturday before each race. The first race of the series generally start week 3-4 of Term 2 with the final race in week 6-7, Term 3 which finishes the season.

NETBALL

COMPETITION STRUCTURE & INFORMATION

Netball is our most popular sports amongst girls. Hobsonville Point has also shown previous success in the North Harbour Competition as all teams have managed to move up grades each season. Teams are selected based on ability and year level, our goal is to cater for all abilities. Even if you are a complete beginner and never played Netball before we have the coaches and teams to help you learn this fun, fast and exciting sport. Pre-season, trials and trainings begin early Term 1. The regular season starting week 1 in Term 2 with the season concluding halfway through Term 3. There is also the possibility of Summer Netball, this version is perfect to create mixed teams. All games are played at the North Harbour AMI stadium in Northcote.

RUGBY UNION

COMPETITION STRUCTURE & INFORMATION

At Hobsonville Point we currently have one Rugby team which was entered in the North Harbour Rugby 6th grade. Our team plays in this grade based on weight and age restrictions. In the near future as the school grows we’ll look to have an open grade team followed by a number of age and weight restricted teams. The games are always played at home and away venues with Hobsonville Point Secondary School fields being our home ground.

UNIFORM

All students must supply their own boots, mouthguard and headgear where required. Students must also wear the Glenfield College Rugby uniform.

Hobsonville Point doesn’t run its own swimming sports day. However, we give our students the opportunity to compete at the North Harbour Secondary School competition. This is recommended for students that have previous experience in the pool who are affiliated with a local swimming club or belong to a representative group.

UNIFORM

Students are to wear their own club togs and cap. Students are expected to wear school uniform to and from events. A school sports hoodie or jacket is also recommended to wear.

TOUCH RUGBY

COMPETITION STRUCTURE & INFORMATION

Touch is a safe, non-contact sport and can be played competitively as well as socially. Touch is a simple and easy game to learn and is one of the few sports that you can play in girls, boys, or in mixed teams. If you want to try a fast and fun new sport where all players are totally involved.

The junior competition (Y9-10) is played on Tuesday nights Week 1, Term 4 at Hato Petera School. Senior competition (Y11-13) is also played on Tuesday nights at Hato Petera School however in Term 1. Junior students who are skilled enough may be asked to also play in the senior grade.

VOLLEYBALL

COMPETITION STRUCTURE & INFORMATION

Volleyball is a popular sport Hobsonville Point especially amongst girls. We have a number students wanting to play Volleyball at junior and senior levels. Our Senior teams generally compete in Term 1, while our Junior Y9-10 teams compete in Term 4. All games are played at AMI Stadium North Harbour or Rangitoto College.

UNIFORM

All team members must have appropriate footwear and wear the Hobsonville Point Volleyball uniform which will issued before the season starts.
