Bringing home the Silver

Congratulations to Devon Gatcum for placing 02nd out of 14 teams in the U18 Mixed Grade Touch Tournament held over the Weekend. What an awesome way to start the year.

Here is a write up of Devon's experience from the tournament.

We had a 3-day touch tournament in Rotorua and were lucky enough to have a televised game on live TV, even better winning 9-3 against Nelson. My highlight was scoring a try in front of a live 200 person crowd.

We came second in our pool by point differential. We then had an 8:45am Semi-Final against Auckland U18 Mixed which resulted in a close game with Auckland scoring in the final second and on the final whistle to bring the game into a drop off. We fortunately won with 3 players left on the field and scoring the winning try sending us to Finals.

Bay of Plenty was our Final match and we knew it was going to be tough with them being undefeated all tournament. We ran out onto the field and hearing my name being read out in front of a crowd of roughly 500+ viewers was certainly a highlight.

We started the game off strong leading at one stage 3-1 but at half time trailing 7-5. Our team played with their hearts on their sleeves and ended the game on a high losing closely 11-7.

Being crowned 2nd in the U18 Mixed Grade and earning that silver medal was a very memorable time.

Scores of all the days :)
