Engaging, questioning, empowering
Our Learning Modules are delivered as co(nnected)-modules (two Learning Area teachers collaborating) or Spins (one Learning Area, one teacher) that provide coverage of the New Zealand Curriculum Learning Areas. Students choose a range of modules that provide the depth and breadth of curriculum and wider conceptual coverage. This gives students a choice of connection and context eg a Maths with Physical Education co-module, or English and Science. All modules are delivered by specialist teachers at the appropriate curriculum levels and build on a wider Big Concept each term eg Space & Place or Identity. Learning is enriched through clearly connected conceptual understandings, transferable generic capabilties and discipline-specific skills. Learning Modules focus on learning through inquiry to develop deep learning, critical and creative thinking skills and independent learning skills. We have a strong focus on critical thinking and developing student metacognition using our common Learning Design Model. Students use inquiry and design thinking processes to ensure high level thinking, complex problem-solving skills and authentic presentation of learning.
