Student Absences

Reporting Absences or Leaving During the School Day:

If students are unable to attend school or are required to leave for an appointment which cannot be scheduled outside of school time, we require notification by a parent/caregiver as follows:

  • Phone: (09) 975 7400
  • Email:
  • App: you can download the ‘Hobsonville Point Secondary’ app for free from the App Store (see more info on the right).

HPSS is a closed campus which means that students may not leave the school grounds at any time of the school day (including a visit to the shops).

If we are not advised prior to pick up for an appointment the parent/caregiver needs to come in to collect them and advise reception at that time, as we cannot release a student without advice from a parent or caregiver.

School App:

Simply go to your App Store and search 'Hobsonville Point Secondary'.

We encourage all students, parents and caregivers to have it downloaded and ready for the new school year!

It includes a handy calendar, student notices, quick and easy absences messenger and will be the main way that we will be sending out messages and alerts. Simply download and select the alerts that you want, select your hub (or your son or daughter's hub) and any other group you are part of.

When Students are Feeling Unwell During the School Day:

The student needs to let their teacher know they are unwell and then visit the school nurse located in student services, rather than contacting parents direct to collect them.

It is really important they be examined before leaving the school and that the nurse calls the parent/caregiver if they need to be collected.

‘Pick Up/Drop Off Zone’ Before & After School:

The ‘Pick up/Drop off Zone’ is in the carpark

off Nugget Ave (shown with blue arrows below).

Students are not to be dropped off or picked up anywhere along the laneway off Hobsonville Point Road (entry shown with red cross below) unless they are part of the Arohanui Unit, are in a wheelchair or are on crutches.

Lost Property:

All lost school uniform, electronics, phones, watches, keys, jewellery, cards and glasses are locked in the administration area. Students just need to ask at reception and we can check if their items have been handed in.

If school uniform is named on the label however, the student will be emailed &/or called down to collect it when it is handed in. So naming uniform items is very important and assists a return.

For lost plain clothing, shoes, lunch containers, drink bottles, pencil cases, laptop bags & cases etc.. these can be found in the ‘Lost Property’ box in student services (near the sick bay).

School Fees and Accounts

There are several ways which you can pay your child's school account:

Please include the reference HPSS and your

child’s name.

  • At the school Kiosk in the reception area:

using either cash or eftpos.

HPSS is a cashless school, please do not give your child cash to give to staff.
