Threats

Pipefish are dried and used in traditional Chinese medicine where they are known as "HaiLong". This could potentially threaten the population of these species if current levels of exploitation continue. Climate change, coastal developments and pollution have led to habitat loss of pipefish. Pipefish also once appeared in pet shops for sale in Hong Kong.

Conservation

The species is not included in the ‘Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES)’.
