Threats
The species is heavily targeted by hunters in illegal trading. The species has a solid horn or casque on the upper side of its beak which is valuable. Sometimes its feathers are targeted by hunters. In addition, killing males during hatching period could lead to the subsequent death of both the chicks and the females. Therefore, hunting is likely to have a particularly severe impact on the species' survival.
Conservation
Hornbills are included in the ‘Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES)’ Appendix I.
