Threats

Crocodile skin has always been regarded as precious and rare. Also, crocodile meat is believed to have medicinal value in traditional Chinese medicine. Therefore, humans keep hunting crocodiles, resulting in the decrease in the number of crocodiles. Along with the pollution of rivers and coastal areas, crocodiles are now facing the threat of extinction.

Conservation

All crocodylia species are included in the ‘Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES)’ Appendix I, and some are included in Appendix II.
