Threats

Caterpillar fungus is one of the most valuable medicinal fungi in China. Due to long-term overharvest and environmental climate change, the number of Caterpillar fungus is decreasing and its distribution range is gradually shrinking. The distribution area of Caterpillar fungus may be lost more than 30% in the next 30 to 50 years due to climate change.

Conservation

The species is Class II protected species in the ‘List of endangered and protected species of China’.
