American ginseng is widely used in traditional Chinese medicine. Therefore, the wild plant has been overharvested and is at a high risk of endangerment.

Conservation

American ginseng is included in the ‘Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES)’ Appendix II.
