Threats

The main threat to agarwood is unregulated harvesting and trade of its resinous wood. Demand for agarwood is so high that specialists are employed full time to search for wild populations. Agarwood is also threatened by forest fires and mining.


Conservation

Agarwood is included in the ‘Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES)’ Appendix II.
