How Do We Promote Nature Conservation?

The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) promotes public awareness of nature conservation through publicity and a series of educational activities.

Set-up of Endangered Species Resource Centre

The Endangered Species Resource Centre is located in AFCD headquarters at Cheung Sha Wan Government Offices, which was opened in May 2001. The Centre exhibits some species of animals and plants threatened by international trade to help promote public awareness of endangered species protection.

Experiential learning opportunities for the public

AFCD monitors, manages and develops the country parks and marine parks as well as the Hong Kong Wetland Park. All these parks are equipped with informative visitor centres and run a variety of nature appreciation activities, such as workshops, eco-tours and volunteering schemes, for participants of all ages to promote local biodiversity and its conservation.

Supporting the school curriculum

A wide array of interactive and activity-based programmes targeting at kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools are offered by AFCD, such as guided excursions, competitions and workshops, to encourage students to learn by experiencing and enhancing their awareness of biodiversity conservation. Some of these are designed to supplement the school curriculum.
