All students continue with Games and PE lessons in year 10 and 11.
Year 10 runs much the same as Years 7-9. There are some adjustments, for example the addition of Volleyball and Handball. The content becomes less teacher led and more focused on activity levels and game play.
When moving into Year 11 the curriculum changes. There are three main options:
HBS Leadership award - this is a new course replacing the previous Sports Leaders award. This is a self accredited award which teaches you the basics of leadership and the skills required to teach all of our main activities in school. Alongside this, we will aim to support you getting at least one main qualification in a chosen sport which will allow you to start your journey into coaching or officiating. The lesson will be split into some theory but still allowing plenty of practical to take place. We would expect all GCSE PE students to take this option, or anyone who has a love of coaching or leadership.
GCSE Short Course - due to the change of this course, which now has one full exam, we have seen numbers reduce in sign up. This course is perfect for those who enjoy the academic side of PE but chose not to take this for a full GCSE. They may consider taking it at A Level or want to gain an official qualification to recognise their time studying of PE for 5 years. Due to the smaller numbers, this course may well be remotely taught with some lessons self led with supervision of a teacher. We have found this to be just as successful but does require a genuine motivation to study and work independently
Core Options - This is the final choice and for those who are happy just taking part in physical activity twice a week. There will be a rotation of options each half term ranging from Football to table tennis and through to all of our traditional sports we have taught in Yrs 7-10.
