Welcome! I'm delighted to be your teacher this year.

A little bit about me:

I went to a performing arts high school, Interlochen Arts Academy, where I practiced violin for ten hours a day and subsequently realized I wanted to be an English teacher. After a BA in English - Creative Writing (minor, Philosophy) from The College of Wooster, I worked as a writer for arts and non profit organizations in NYC and Chicago. I have a Masters in Teaching from National-Louis University, and have completed coursework in the MFA/MCW program (poetry) at Northwestern. I am a member of SCBWI and a writing coach for the National Blogging Collaborative. I'm also a certified yoga teacher. This past summer I added the following certifications to my RYT-200; trauma-informed yoga, chair yoga, and restorative. When I'm not teaching, I consult with students and families as a holistic college counselor and essay coach. I live with my two sons, Levi and Asher, two dogs, Henry and Charlie, and a persnickety (and hypoallergenic!) cat, Luna.

Research interests: Collaborative writing, Social-Emotional Learning, Mindfulness.

"Literature was born not the day when a boy crying wolf, wolf came running out of the Neanderthal valley with a big gray wolf at his heels: literature was born on the day when a boy came crying wolf, wolf and there was no wolf behind him. That the poor little fellow because he lied too often was finally eaten up by a real beast is quite incidental. But here is what is important. Between the wolf in the tall grass and the wolf in the tall story there is a shimmering go-between. That go-between, that prism, is the art of literature." - Vladimir Nabokov
