Welcome to our Year 6 transition website, we understand that the transition from primary to secondary school can be a big step for pupils and parents/carers. We hope that you will find our website informative and will hope to make your transition to us as smooth as possible.
Your journey to Outwood Academy Hindley starts now, below you will find information about ordering your new Outwood uniform and data collection that we need from you. There is also information on our ACE programme and our transition staff who will be key in settling you at your new school.
Preparing to start in September is important, we have listed what to expect between now and September
March
Welcome letter
Information Gathering;
Data collection forms to be completed by parents - this is a google form to gather personal, academic and character information to help us get to know your child.
Uniform
Uniform bundles are to be ordered via Trutex, please complete your order by 11th May. Please use the link above to order your child's uniform. Collection of uniforms will be from the school in July - see dates below.
April - June
Visits from Outwood Academy Hindley Staff
Mrs Grundy & Mr Holden will be visiting each primary school to meet students and primary school staff to discuss vulnerable pupils, this will be with school staff including support staff and SENDCo
SEND Event
Thursday 5th June: This is an event for those parents of children with SEND needs to visit our Inclusion Hub and meet the team. There will be opportunities to meet staff and look around our inclusion hub to see the facilities and how we can help your child receive the best education.
Small Numbers Event
Monday 16th June: This is an event for those parents and children who are coming from primary schools where there may only be 1 or 2 pupils transitioning to Outwood Academy Hindley, this will be a great opportunity for your child to meet up with future classmates prior to the Year 6 Induction Day on Wednesday 2nd July 2024. It also gives you, as a parent/carer, the opportunity to ask any questions you may have in a more informal context.
July
Year 6 Transition day
Wednesday 2nd July: All new year 7s will spend a full day at Outwood Hindley where they will have taster lessons and meet their new classmates and teachers. They will get a real insight into daily life at Outwood Hindley. More information will be sent nearer the time.
Parent Information Evening
Parents will be invited to school on Wednesday 2nd July for an information evening - this will be a good opportunity to ask any questions or raise any concerns you may have about your child starting with us in September.
Uniform Collection/Exchange
Collection - Thursday 24th July : You can collect your uniform order from school - information on times is on the information sheet within the link below. - Here you will also be given details on how to get on to Ipay where you can pay for school dinners/trips/music lessons.
Exchange - Thursday 31st July Should you need to exchange an item of uniform for a different size, you can do this on this date at school.
September
Once your child is on roll at Outwood Academy Hindley, you will receive information on how to log into our communications app Xpressions, we use this to send home information about trips and whole school letters. You are also able to message in with absence notifications or if you wish to get a message to a member of staff. You will also receive information on how to use our Academy portal where you will be able to see your child's Praising Stars reports, behaviour and attendance information.
