Although a short half term, we have certainly managed to pack a lot in! A particular mention goes to our Year 6 pupils who conducted themselves exceptionally throughout their end of key stage 'SATS' tests. Leading up to the assessment week, the attendance at the additional booster sessions laid on by our dedicated team of Year 6 staff was exemplary. They demonstrated many essential skills of aiming high and staying positive. I look forward to receiving their results in due course.
This term has seen many opportunities for the children to engage in 'careers' activities, learning the wider importance of developing essential skills. Year 5 had a talk from one of the animators from Peppa Pig, whilst Year 3 enjoyed a inspiring virtual workshop from an aeroplane engineer. I am excited to announce a whole school careers day on 25th June. During this day, all children will apply what they have learnt from their 'skills builder' lessons to a real life work context. In addition, our Year 6 pupils will meet employees from a wider range of careers to begin thinking about their future aspirations.
Please make sure that you pop Thursday 26th June in your diary for our 'Great Get Together'. This is an evening of fun and fundraising whilst showcasing all our pupils' performing arts talents.

With the appearance of the beautiful weather this term, Year 3 have had even more opportunities to practise their P.E skills in athletics, rounders and in learning the intricacies of Maypole Dancing. 32 of our year 3 pupils have been selected to take partin the 'Royal Ballet Chance to Dance' programme. These pupils are having weekly creative dance lessons with a qualified ballet teacher and hope to have ashort show piece ready for our great get together next term! In Maths, the children have been exploring fractions learning new vocabulary and investigating the difference between unit and non unit fractions. In English, they have enjoyed writing their own versions of Violet Beauregard's predicament and antics from the well known story - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and in Geography they have been exploring the wonders of Australia.
This half term, Year 4 has been immersed in an exciting cross-curricular journey inspired by David Wiesner's wordless picture book "Flotsam." The children have been captivated by this story of a curious boy who discovers an underwater camera washed up on the beach, revealing extraordinary photographs of ocean life.
Using "Flotsam" as a springboard, the class conducted research into plastic pollution affecting our oceans, exploring its causes, impact on marine ecosystems, and potential solutions. This environmental focus has fostered thoughtful discussions and children created fact files about the issue.
Swimming has been a highlight, with pupils enthusiastically attending daily sessions. Their dedication has resulted in remarkable progress, with many children developing confidence and improving their technique significantly.
In Science, the class has been exploring the fascinating world of sound - investigating how it travels, creates vibrations, and changes pitch and volume.
Mathematics lessons have centred on shape properties and time concepts. Students have been working with 2D and 3D shapes while practising telling the time using both analogue and digital formats.
Despite it being a very short term, Carnival season has started!
With the upcoming Luton Carnival soon upon us, our preparation and links with Luton Police are in full swing. We have even got Mr O practising his carnival dance moves and helping prepare all of the festivities!
Maths you ask? Why thank you for asking! It has been the age-old favourite angles as our main topic of focus! Straight line? 180! Triangles? 180! Mr Stevens average total on a three-darter? ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY! There has been plenty of measuring and calculation to ensure that angles are on the way to being mastered!
Our English sessions have been based around the book we love reading, 'The Boy in the Back of the Classroom'. Pupils from all classes have produced persuasive letters and descriptive texts to show their understanding of the gripping story.
We hope you have a delightful half term break and come back ready for the long, final summer term!
As we reach the end of this half term, we couldn’t be prouder of our Year 6 pupils. Over the past several weeks, they have demonstrated incredible resilience, determination, and maturity as they prepared for their SATs exams.
From early morning booster lessons (which started at 8am every day) to focused lessons and practice sessions, our Year 6 children have given their all. They’ve tackled reading comprehensions, cracked complex maths problems, and mastered tricky grammar rules – all with a fantastic attitude and a willingness to push themselves.
The SATs week itself ran smoothly, and every pupil approached each paper with calm confidence. We thank all our school community for all their support during the SATs week, ensuring our year 6 pupils had the best conditions possible to focus on their exams.
Now that SATs are behind us, we’re looking forward to the exciting activities planned for the rest of the school year – from Puppets, Sports Days, Chessington and camping, to end-of-year celebrations. But before we move on, we want to take a moment to say a huge WELL DONE to each and every member of Year 6. You have made us incredibly proud!
Enjoy a well-deserved rest over the half term – you’ve earned it!
FAMILY WORKER NEWS
Thank you to those parents who were able to attend one of our Anxiety workshops run by our Mental Health Schools Team. The sessions offered tips around identification of stress and anxiety and ways to help support children to manage these.
Our Slow cooker sessions have been very popular. Children in year 3, with the help of their parents, have been making pizza in the slow cooker. They get to take these home at the end of the day along with a taste of a slow cooked pudding. After the holidays it will be the turn of year 4.
Mr Bradshaw has been delighted to share two of his Friday lunchtimes with children from across the school who have demonstrated commitment and perseverance in their reading. Each teacher nominated a pupil from their class to join our 'millionaire' readers and Mr Bradshaw this half term.
Next half term, one class from each year group who collaboratively read on the most occasions at home, will be rewarded with an extra break time and a free non school uniform! If you want to be in a chance to win children, get reading over half term! Don't forget to get your grown up to sign your reading record!
Congratulations to this terms' 'Reading Millionaires'!
