In this project, my class sewed a tapestry to demonstrate one of our Epic Journeys camping trip to Anza Borrego, inspired by the Bauyoux Tapestry. Each student sewed and embroidered a section of the tapestry, which we then connected by sewing the pieces together. In my section, I showed when we were making s'mores and telling scary stories by the campfire, as well as people playing hide and seek in the dark and getting their shoes and pants muddy in a puddle. In this Epic Journey project, I learned how to sew and embroider using a sewing machine and an embroidery hoop. I also learned how to coordinate with groupmates who connected their pieces to mine and how to display a Journey in a picture.
In this project, students were put into groups to film and make a video on a certain subject during our Epic Journey field trip to Anza Borrego. For example, my group was assigned the topic of packing and preparing to go camping. We filmed and interviewed people packing to make a final video to share the stories of this journey and the value we derived from it.
In this project, I made an article based on the question, "What is one of your greatest skills or talents?" I answered this question in depth in this article, and I got inspiration from other former students' articles that they used to apply for college.
In this project, I created a 1:12 scale model of the Orange County Ropes Course where we went on a field trip to as one of our Epic Journeys. I made a tiny version of the ropes course out of wood and string using glue to put everything together, and I replicated a photo of me on a section of the ropes course. I laser-cut the photo of me onto wood and glued it onto my final ropes course model.
In this Epic Journey, my class took a field trip to Mission Bay to go paddleboarding. We took pictures of ourselves and then made free-body diagrams to represent the different forces acting on us while paddleboarding. We reflected on how the forces acted to learn how to make the most effective model for our later cardboard boat project.
This was one of my favorite projects this semester where I got to design and build a cardboard boat and test it in a nearby bay. We first created and tested smaller scale prototypes out of paper and small pieces of cardboard before building the final boat with an eight by eleven foot piece of cardboard where I would then get inside and row across the bay.Â
In this project, we got to chose a variable to collect data on during our hike at Mission Trials. I chose to measure my water bottles weight over time. I made a graph of the data I collected during the hike and added pictures to show different parts of the hike.
In this project, me and my group made a weather forecast video based on the data we collected while on a field trip to Anza Borrego. We used a green screen to try to replicate a news forecast video.
In this project, I took pictures during our Mission Trails hike and Made them into postcards which I then sent to family members.
In this project, I made an animation on Khan Academy to represent one of our Epic Journeys. Since the cardboard boat project was one of my favorites, I decided to make an animation of me rowing in a cardboard boat. I used all three animation types (rotation, translation, and transformation).
