Kingussie High School Learner Pathways

Website live - but not finished! If you found your way here we would appreciate any early feedback as we work towards a December 2018 launch date.

Kingussie High School supports all our young people to move into a positive and sustained destination from school and our planning both within the BGE and the Senior Phase helps us achieve this. In order to ensure success, we need to raise the awareness (for pupils, parents and staff) of the options and many different learning pathways that are available for young people.

It is important to view the BGE (S1 - S3) and the Senior Phase (S4 - S6) as a 3-year experience, working towards a portfolio of qualifications rather than a single year-on-year experience. We already have a track record of success in planning learning pathways leading to positive destinations from Kingussie High School, but we now want to build on this and ensure all our young people move onto a job, training opportunity, college course or university place when they leave us at the end of S4, S5 or S6.

At KHS we are a also a big believer in the 'back up plan'! Young people need to have parallel plans; a plan A, B, C, etc. and keep their options open. A learners portfolio needs to also be more that just academic qualifications. It need to contain skills and other meaningful experiences that can be transferred into employment.

This website highlights the pathways taken by some of our pupils and gives information about all of the subjects which are available to young people at Kingussie High School. You will see some of the experiences of our current and former pupils to help you visualise the potential of the BGE and Senior Phase to deliver opportunities for our young people; importantly (as mentioned above) this places equal emphasis on academic qualifications as well as wider achievements and the acquisition of a first-class skill set.
