Highlands Virtual School

Virtual Instruction Programs

The School Board of Highlands County's newest school is Highlands Virtual School.

Highlands Virtual School (HVS) is a school choice option for students entering grades 6-12 . HVS students are served by Highly Qualified Highlands County teachers for online instruction. Students log in, receive curriculum, complete assignments and take quizzes and tests online. They have full access to their teachers for each subject through email, phone, instant message or virtual classroom. In addition, lab sessions and tutoring will be available in a face-to-face format.

  • Full Time: HVS full time students are considered public school students. Students must take a full schedule, stay on pace, follow the pupil progression plan for the district and take state mandated tests. Students earn a Highlands County high school diploma.
  • Co‐enrolled: Students are enrolled in other schools (public or private) and take classes online—during or in addition to their school day. Class selection and registration is handled by the guidance counselor at the student’s physical school.
  • Credit Recovery: Students may use HVS to retake classes where they made a poor grade. Class selection and registration is handled by the guidance counselor at the student’s physical school.
  • Home Education students: Families who file a “Letter of Intent to Home Educate” may use HVS to fulfill curriculum needs.
