Head and Deputy Girls and Boys
Croeso! These two weeks have been filled with learning, teamwork and exciting activities. From aquarium visits to ballet shows, years four and five have obviously had an amazing time. This week has probably been quite strange, considering how short, only three days this week. Sports day is creeping up now and we are already practising in preparation for activities like bean bag race, sprint, hockey and obstacle course. Let's not forget the netball tournament with some of our pupil, they did us proud! That's all from us, thank you.
Best regards from Cathal, Zac, Nia and Neve.

Year 5 Aquarium Trip
We had a fantabulous trip to Bristol Aquarium! What a fun fact filled day! Did you know that the male seahorse gives birth to the babies? And lobsters can taste with their feet and legs! Sealife is truly fascinating and we are now looking forward to learning more about our oceans and the inhabitants. The children enjoyed feeding the fish, a guided tour linked to 'Saving our Seas' and looking at all the different sea life. Year 5 represented our school superbly - I was very proud of them.
Year 4 Ballet
On Thursday 7th May, Year 4 had a wonderful time watching the Ballet Cymru perform in their dress rehersal of Sleeping Beauty. We were amazed at how they were able to tell the narative through dance and were so impressed by all of the jumps and spins. It was incredible! We thank them very much for inviting us.
Netball Festival
What a fantastic time our netball team had at the Netball Festival held at St Julian's Primary School. Theire energy and enthusiasm shone through all day. It was wonderful to hear what fantastic representatives of High Cross the children were. Their behaviour and sportsmanship was noted by many. We are very proud of them all. A big thank you to Mrs Pinkstone and Miss Hurn for supporting the children at the event, along with the parents/ carers who were there. Thank you as well to Miss Gregory for helping prepare the children in our afterschool netball club. It is lovely to see how much their skills have come on and the children having the oppotunity to use these in a tournament. Well done everyone!
Sports Day
We are very excited for our upcoming sports day on Wednesday 20th May 2026. We thoroughly enjoyed last year and cannot wait to welcome everyone back to support the children. We have set aside Thursday 4th June as a reserve date.
Key Stage 2: 9.15am - 11.30am
Foundation Phase: 1.30pm - 3:15pm
All Nursery pupils are asked to attend the afternoon session on this date.
The PTA will be selling refreshments on the day and pre-loved uniform. These will be cash payments only please.
David Attenborough
Today we marked a very special milestone by celebrating Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday with an in‑class assembly. We learned about his extraordinary life, from his early days in broadcasting to his lifelong dedication to protecting our planet. We explored his achievements, his most inspiring work, and reflected on how his passion for nature continues to influence people of all ages. It was a brilliant opportunity for the children to appreciate the impact of one of the world’s most beloved naturalists. Neve and Lucy brought in a wonderful framed portrait of David Attenborough, which they took around each classroom to show everyone.
PTA Volunteers
The PTA requires volunteers for the Eisteddfod Bach and Sports Day. If anyone can offer their support and time please can they let their PTA Year Representative know. We really appreciate it.

Behaviour Towards Staff
There have been a few incidents over the last few weeks whereby a very small minority of parents/carers have been rude and disrespectful towards staff. This behaviour is absolutely unnecessary, unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Please treat our staff with the same respect you would expect to receive. The staff here at High Cross go above and beyond in all that they do for the children and are here to help and support in any way that they can.
When communicating with pupils, parents, carers, staff and all stakeholders, in writing, by phone or in person we will always:
Be polite, respectful and do our best to resolve your questions and queries;
Try to get back to in a timely manner. Please remember our staff are very busy and they have daily teaching commitments. We will always try to get back to you within 48 hours but please understand this is not always possible;
Pass your query on to someone who can help if we are unable to assist you.
In return, we ask that you:
Treat our staff with politeness and respect;
Do not contact us to vent anger or frustration. We understand that something may have caused you or your child distress but please try to communicate with us in a calm and respectful manner to allow us to try to help you quickly and efficiently;
Accept that staff may not be able to respond to you immediately and please remember that we do not expect our staff to work at weekends;
Allow us to explain our reasons for decisions, which are always made in a considered and timely manner.
It is important to note that persistent rude, aggressive or malicious communication will not be tolerated. If such inappropriate communication occurs, it may result in restrictions being imposed by the headteacher (in consultation with the Chair of Governors) on your mode of communication with the school.
Thank you for your understanding with this.
