Croseo!
What a busy fortnight we have had here at High Cross. Pupils have made amazing Easter Bonnets for our parade, which Wellbeing Warriors judged, card making for their families at home and not forgetting the lovely Eid Party we had, where every class made a certain meal to eat ( which was delicious). What a great spring term we have had.
Hope you all have a fabulous Easter break.
We will see you in the summer term, Hwyl Fawr!

Monday 20th July 2026
Our Family Engagement Planner which we shared with you in the Summer Term, has key dates for the academic year, including our INSET days.
On Friday 13th February we had our Cluster INSET held at Bassaleg School. Our six cluster primary schools (High Cross, Rogerstone, Mount Pleasant, Pentrepoeth, Jubilee Park and Marshfield) attended this incredible day of professional learning.
We started the day by sharing our ‘cluster vision’ as a reminder of the commitment we show to ensuring the best educational experience for all of our young people. The day aimed to further develop our shared cluster culture of learning to support continuity of learning at the transition phase from primary into secondary education.
The final article which captures the day and is written by Bassaleg School Student Press Team can be viewed below.
On Monday 23rd March had an enjoyable visit to Bethesda Church, Rogerstone. It started with a lovely walk along the canal taking in the beautiful signs of Spring. We then learnt about the Easter story and enjoyed taking part in the interactive retell, which included acting, videos and a news room.
We then went downstairs to complete acitivities related to what we had learnt and were treated to squash and biscuits, as well as a chocolate treat to take away. It was a wonderful morning and Mrs Thomas will hopefully be visiting Year 6 for some sessions in the summer term. The children were again fantastic role models of the school.
Year 5 and 6 Internet Safety Talk
On Wednesday 25th March Year 5 and Year 6 had a very informative visit from PC Donne. He spoke with the children about the importance of staying safe online, age ratings, gaming and digital footprints. The session helped children understand how to make sensible choices, recognise potential risks, and how to use the internet responsibly.
There is and online safety section on our school website and here are some leaflets, which we hope parents/ carers find useful:
Fortnite internet safety support Snapchat online support
Instagram internet safety support Tiktok online support
Making friends online support Whatsapp online support
Comic Relief 2026
To raise awareness of Comic Relief and Red Nose Day, we held an assembly showcasing the impactful work supported by funds raised through this charity. The children made thoughtful and relevant contributions throughout, answering questions with care and consideration.
Panathlon Bowling
Last week a team of six children from Year 3 to Year 6 represented High Cross at the Panathlon bowling competition in Cwmbran. They had previously shown an outstanding performance in the Autumn competition and as a result were invited back to the semi-finals. There were a number of other Newport schools at the event. Their teamwork, enthusisam and skills were fantastic to see.
Well done boys!
Eid
On Monday 23rd March, we had a wonderful time celebrating Eid together with a wide range of fun and engaging activities. Each class helped prepare delicious food in advance, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed during the celebrations. The children took part in henna, Arabic name writing, dressing up, colouring, word searches, and exploring artefacts! Fun was had by all! A big thank you to all the parent helpers who made this event so special. We truly appreciate your time, effort, and enthusiasm!
Eid Mubarak!
Football Tournament
On Wednesday 25th March a team of 11 children from Year 5 and 6 took part in the Newport schools' mixed football games at Spytty 3G pitch. They were on top form; winning 4 games, drawing 2 and losing 2. What superstars they were and they were a credit to our school throughout the day. Thank you to Mrs Pinkstone and Miss Sienna for supervising the children and cheering them on, along with the family members who were able to stay. A big thank you as well must go to Mr Molano for not only delivering a training session the week before to help warm the team up for the event, but also arriving at the perfect time to referee. A team effort and great time had by all!
School Disco
On Wednesday 25th March we had our spring term school discos for children from Nursery to Year 6, kindly organised by our PTA. There was lots of smiling and great dancing on show in the hall. It is great to see the children having fun at these events. Thank you to our fantastic team of PTA volunteers and our staff who stayed to support. These events would not be possible without all of your help. It was wonderful to see the number of children who came along. We look forward to the next event.
Easter Bonnet Parade
Our annual Easter Bonnet Parade was a wonderful burst of imagination, teamwork, and springtime cheer. The children arrived at school proudly wearing their creations - everything from classic bonnets trimmed with flowers to towering masterpieces complete with chicks, bunnies, and plenty of spring time sparkle. A huge well done to our winners, whose designs stood out to our Wellbeing Warriors judging (we hope you enjoy your chocolate treats), but just as importantly, congratulations to every single child who took part. The effort, enthusiasm, and joy on display made the parade truly special. Thank you to families for supporting the children’s ideas and helping make this year’s parade so wonderful.

Toilet Refurbishment
We are delighted to share that the refurbishment of the Key Stage 2 girls’ toilets has now complete, which includes a disabled toilet. The new facilities are open plan, brighter, and designed to create a more comfortable space for our pupils throughout the school day. We have included some photographs for you to see and we are sure you'll agree they look fantastic. A huge thank‑you to everyone for their patience during the work, however, the short disruption is certainly worth the long term gain. The boys’ toilets are next on the schedule, and we will keep you updated when that project gets underway.
