***UPDATE: Starting the week of May 4, 2020 all of my Reading and math lessons will be posted on Seesaw. Students in grades K,1, 2 and 4 were sent Seesaw codes from their classroom teachers. For my reading and math students in grades 3 and 5 I have already sent your codes to you individually through the Talking Points app. Please see the attached letter for more information about the Seesaw program.

To all of my students and their families, I hope this message finds you well. It is important for my students to read books that are on their independent reading level in addition to their classroom assignments. Every student has been sent login information for Getepic.com. I will be assigning all of my reading assignments on this site. Students can find the book I have assigned in their mailbox on Getepic.com. Please read below for your weekly grade level reading assignment.

For my math students, you will find your assignments towards the bottom of this page. Every student has been sent login information for Khanacademy.org. Please complete the assigned lessons over the course of the week. The lessons include skills from your grade level as well as previous grade levels for a review of basic skills. Students should also be working on XtraMath.org for basic fact practice. Please read below for your weekly grade level math assignment.

Reading and Math Assignments for the week of April 6, 2020

Kindergarten Reading

Day 1: Have you ever been to a farm? Make a list of the animals you might see on a farm. Login to Getepic.com and listen to Barnyard Babies.

Day 2: Login to Getepic.com and read Barnyard Babies. Complete the quiz.

Day 3: Make a list of the animals mentioned in the story and the names of their babies. Ex: Chicken and chick

Grade 1 Reading

Day 1: Have you ever been on a walk? Talk with a family member about what you saw. Login to Getepic.com and listen to We’re Going on a Dinosaur Dig.

Day 2: Login to Getepic.com and read We’re Going on a Dinosaur Dig. Complete the quiz.

Day 3: What did the children find on their walk? Write two sentences about what they found.

Grade 2 Reading

Day 1: Have you ever wondered about bats? Come up with two questions you have about bats. Login to Getepic.com and listen to Bats.

Day 2: Login to Getepic.com and read Bats. Complete the quiz.

Day 3: Use details from the story to write three facts you learned about bats. Remember to write in complete sentences.

Grade 3 Reading

Day 1: Have you ever seen a tornado? Write three sentences about what you already know about tornadoes. Login to Getepic.com and listen to Tornadoes.

Day 2: Login to Getepic.com and read Tornadoes. Complete the quiz.

Day 3: Using details from the story, create a sequencing chart explaining how a tornado is formed. Remember to use time order words (first, then, next, finally) in your writing.

Grade 4 Reading

Day 1: How many continents does Earth have? Sketch a map of the world and label each continent. Which continent do you live on? Login to Getepic.com and listen to Explore Earth’s Seven Continents.

Day 2: Login to Getepic.com and read Explore Earth’s Seven Continents. Complete the quiz.

Day 3: If you could live anywhere in the world what country would it be and what continent would it be on? Write a paragraph explaining why you would want to live there. Use details from the story to support your answer.

Grade 5 Reading

Day 1: Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live near a volcano? Make a list of 3-5 concerns you might have if you lived near a volcano. Login to Getepic.com and listen to Erupt! 100 Fun Facts about Volcanoes.

Day 2: Login to Getepic.com and read Erupt! 100 Fun Facts about Volcanoes. Complete the quiz.

Day 3: Pick a chapter from the story and summarize it. Be sure to state the main idea of the chapter and give details to support it. You may draw an illustration to go with your writing.

Day 3: Draw and label a spring scene. Be sure to include 5 things you would see or do in spring.

Grade 1 Reading

Day 1: Have you ever seen the Thanksgiving Day Parade? Make a list of the things you might see in a parade. Login to Getepic.com and read Here is Big Bunny.

Day 2: Login to Getepic.com and read Here is Big Bunny. Complete the quiz.

Day 3: The author gave you clues to help you predict what Big Bunny was. Write two sentences about what clues the author gave you.

Day 3: Draw, color and label a picture about reduce, reuse and recycle.

Day 1: Did you know that the actions of people can affect the planet? Make a list of 3 positive actions and 3 negative actions people do to affect the earth. Login to Getepic.com and read What Matters.

Day 3: Write a paragraph about something you did to help the Earth. Give details to support how your actions helped the Earth. Draw a picture to go with your writing.

Grade 4 Reading

Day 1: Do you recycle? Think of two examples for when recycling is not helpful. Login to Getepic.com and read Recycling: Yes or No!

Day 3: Make a two column chart listing the pros and cons of recycling. Use details from the book to help you.

Grade 5 Reading

Day 3: Write a letter to your teacher or principal persuading them that the school should go green. Give examples of how the school could go green.
