Studying History provides a student with skills which are not confined to the study of the past. High level skills of analysis are invaluable in many jobs, and the ability to analyse and then prioritise information is vital to decision making. Skills learnt in History, will be very useful in a wide range of academic degrees and professions, the closest links are law, management, finance, journalism, heritage management, writing and education. An A Level in history is desirable as it shows universities and employers that you have a rigorous academic qualification which shows your skills as a critical thinker and demonstrates your ability to structure a clear argument.

Summary Assessment
AS Unit 1 - (20%) Government, Rebellion and Society in Wales and England c. 1485-1603 - Examination
This course gives you an opportunity to study an older time period. We look at how Henry VII established the Tudor dynasty and how the Tudor monarchs ruled their kingdom. You will also analyse rebellions and everyday life. The exam will test your ability to write clearly and concisely about a longer historical period.
AS Unit 2 - (20%) Germany - Weimar and its Challenges C.1918-1933 Depth Study Part 1 - Examination
This course is similar to what you have studied for GCSE, but gives you the opportunity to explore the politics and economics in more depth. We will explore the impact of WWI on Germany and analyse the success and failures of the government as they tried to recover.
A2 Unit 3 - (20%) The American Century c.1890-1990 Depth Study Part 2 - Examination
This course gives you an opportunity to study the history of America, a significant and influential world power. You will learn about the chilling history of racial violence and examine the impact of the Civil Rights movement. We will also examine how America became a superpower and the influence it has had on the world in the last 100 years.
A2 Unit 4 - (20%) Nazi Germany C.1933-1945 - Examination
You will look at the politics and economics of life in Nazi Germnay. You will develop skills of analysis in the exam as you judge validity and use of infomration in context.
A2 Unit 5 - (20%) Historical Interpretations - Coursework/Non-Examination Assessment
You will complete a piece of work independently about a topic of your choice. This is an opportunity for you to investigate a topic that you are really interested in.
