With the digital revolution comes disruptive and destructive cyber terror attacks. Threatening loss of life and physical devastation, cyber terrorists target critical infrastructures and government services to promote their political and ideological goals. As cyberterrorism undermines the electoral process and endangers communication networks, financial systems, water treatment facilities, utility plants and medical care, the full social and psychological ramifications remain unknown. In this symposium, leading researchers examine the evolving challenges of cyberterrorism in an ever-growing connected society. Findings from the fields of political science, psychology, public policy, law and computer sciences, ethics, defense policy, law enforcement and space will help us understand how cyberterrorism can change the world as we know it.
