February 6th Track Recap:

Caster and Ackermann turning circle seminar

Instead of racing on Monday night at CHR there was a seminar lesson that taught the student racers about the Ackermann turning circle and caster. With the Ackermann turning circle when turning at full bump the outside wheel is making the biggest turn because it is making the most rotations in order to turn the car.

Then with the inside wheel it turns less because it makes a smaller and slower rotation. A true Ackermann prevents the wheels from scrubbing on the lower control arms caster is the angle of the steering block kingpin as it leans toward the rear of the car but there is more to it than that.

If you have 0 deg caster blocks and 2 deg of Kickup, you truly have 2 deg of caster. More caster more stability, and less caster is more responsive.

January 30th Race Recap:

CRHS takes their first victory of the new Year!

CRHS takes their second overall win with team Drop Top from Canyon Ridge taking a win in one of his qualifiers and first place in the A-main. The race’s were heated all night with great competition. Team Carter from Mojave was Drop Top’s fiercest competitor all night by keeping on his tail and holding pressure.

At the end of the night CRHS had enough team points to take home the trophy for the week. Next Monday at 4 pm there will be seminar for the students to learn more on the fine tuning of their vehicles.

January 23rd Race Recap:

SUlTANA takes the win

With Oak Hills not present on the race night, it had given schools more breathing room while racing. The track was smooth with good drivers. There were no major crashes and easy passes. The big winner for the night was Harrison Tanner (Team Drop Top) from CRHS with a first time in the A-Main.

Although Team Drop Top from Canyon took the A-Main win and 2 heat wins, Sultana had taken the trophy home for the week because they had several podium finishers throughout the night. Mr. Winters secured the final win for Sultana in the teachers A-Main.

The large 6 pack of jumps on the new track layout proved to be quite the obstacle for a majority of the drivers. Teams such as Drop Top, Break Masters, and Garrett from Sultana had nearly mastered the 6 pack helping them pull away.

January 16th Race Recap:

Mojave takes their first team win

Racing continued at Coyote Hobbies Raceway Monday night with Mojave High School taking the win with finishers in first and second place. John Carter took first place in both of his qualifiers and the main.

Drivers from Mojave had put on good racing all night which in the end had payed off for them with an overall victory. John Carter was consistent all night long. He was putting in good lap times which had given him a starting spot in the A-Main. John was also constantly doubling through the large 6 pack.

A few of the schools are now realizing the importance of the seminar last Monday, which had brought up the recurring issue with traction rolls and ride height.

January 9th Track Recap:

Seminar & INstruction

Last night instead of racing at Coyote Hobbies Raceway there was a seminar, that had brought up the common issue with camber, ride height, and the roll center. Dave the owner of Coyote Hobbies started out the seminar with the explanation of traction rolls which is a roll when your car enters a turn and it produces too much traction and the rear tires grips to much and flips the truck.

Camber is used to help control the car on the track. Negative 2 camber is recommended on the whole car. A low ride height will allow for more control in tight turns while on the throttle. This seminar should help everybody that races that has problems with traction rolling.

December 19th Race Recap:

big bomb wins it for ohhs

OHHS secures another victory in the A-Main, all thanks to Bradley from Team Big Bomb who took the overall win, a full 6 seconds over second place. Travis from Travis the Ringer placed 3rd in the A-Main which had helped Oak Hills High School score more team points overall.

The racers from OHHS raced well and took it slow. Most teams had a lead finger, resulting in not finishing races and multiple crashes. Cars were all over the track causing several teams to get bad laps and adding up to 10 seconds to their times.

December 12th Race Recap:

OHHS wins by just a few points

This week at Coyote Hobbies Raceway, with more than 30 race entries from all of the schools, it was the biggest racing night since the start of the program, and the competition was fierce.

December 5th Race Recap:

OHHS Dominates the New Layout

OHHS’s automotive engineering team won the HUSD AE Team trophy on Monday Night with Garrett Dicus of Team Bulldawgs taking the overall A-Main win.

With a new technical layout, the track challenged many of the drivers to drive their own race to avoid DNFing.

OHHS was able to get 4 teams in the top eight of the A-Main by driving smartly, helping them take the win. Big Bomb from OHHS cracked the top 5 with a solid drive, as Dicus came from the second qualifying spot to take the win by over two seconds.
