Throughout my 28 years as an educator I have taught mostly kindergarten with a few years of TK, 1st and a year of 2nd and 6th. I have been a literacy lead for SanBELT and a Reading Recovery teacher as well. Currently I am an academic coach for Joshua Circle and Mesa Grande elementary. I have enjoyed sharing what I know with teachers and students at all grade levels. Coaching has allowed me to obtain numerous professional development opportunities and to be able to share that information with my two school sites. I have enjoyed the change from classroom teacher to coach. It has energized me and my love for teaching!

“If I am through learning, I am through.” -John Wooden
During my teaching career, I have taught 1st through 5th grade and Reading Recovery. Currently I am a District Coach for Language Arts and Math at Cypress School of the Arts and Mesquite Trails. Over the years, I have been very fortunate to work with teachers and administrators who have valued professional growth and have encouraged me to try new instructional practices. The best professional development I received was earning my Reading Recovery Certificate and learning about how children in grades K-6 think about mathematics through Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) research. In 2010, I earned my M.A. in Education through San Diego State University with an emphasis in K-8 Mathematics. Although I have a love for Language Arts, I have a passion to support, think about, and share students’ understanding in mathematics so they are not afraid of math (as I was) with my colleagues. I believe there is still so much to learn about children’s thinking that I never want to stop listening so I can continue to learn from them!

"Teachers who love teaching, teach children to love learning.”-Robert John Meehan
My hope is that over the last 32 years I have inspired students and teachers to love learning. I began my educational pursuit by obtaining my B.A. degree in Elementary Education at Purdue University. While I was studying at Purdue, the Fontana Unified School District came to recruit teachers. My husband and I picked up and moved from Chicago to Southern California. Over the last 32 years I have taught elementary, middle school, special education, undergraduate and graduate school. In addition, I have earned my M.A. in Education, Reading Specialist Credential and Reading Recovery Certificate. I have learn so very much from my students and colleagues over the years. My passion lies in sharing instructional practices with my peers in order to see students engage in the love of learning.

“If children are apparently unable to learn, we should assume that we have not as yet found the right way to teach them.” Marie Clay
I have just completed my 30th year as an educator having taught in Canada and California in 4 different districts with the majority of my years in HUSD. A strong advocate for public education I believe that when we focus on what our students really need, we are all successful. Teachers need to be life-long learners and our students are often our best teachers. The ten years that I spent as a Reading Recovery teacher was the best professional development that I participated in and the most important thing that I learned was reflecting on my own teaching is essential especially for our struggling learners.

Been working in education for 20 years and am currently an elementary instructional coach. I always knew I wanted to be a teacher and can’t imagine myself doing anything else! I have a multiple subjects credential and a single subject credential in social science. I’ve taught K-12, but my heart is in the primary classroom. I’ve also got a soft spot for EL students because I am one myself.
