Choice Boards
Question or Topic:
“We would like to continue to look at choice board options and ways to enhance the way we are already doing it. We did not get a chance to talk through the resources you had provided at our first meeting because of the internet outage.”
What:
Choice Boards are a strategy that teachers can use to provide their students with choices in the kinds of activities they are going to complete. Although the teacher specifies which activities the student will choose from, the student gets to choose one from several sets of options.
Why:
Choice is a powerful motivator.
Learner variability means that not all students enjoy the same task.
Students have more control over the pace at which they navigate the tasks.
Teachers are freed from orchestrating a lesson and able to conference with learners about their progress, provide feedback on work in progress, or conduct side-by-side assessments
