My name is Mrs. Dietz, and I am very much looking forward to teaching you! This will be my 10th year teaching Latin, and I am super excited to be discussing the language and culture of the ancient Romans with you.

MY BIOGRAPHY

I am passionate about the languages, cultures, and history of the Greeks and Romans and sharing my enthusiasm for learning with others. I hold an Honors B.A. in Classics with a minor in Spanish from Colgate University and an M.A. in Classical Languages and Cultures from Leiden University in the Netherlands, the country of my birth. Throughout my life I have traveled extensively around the world and have studied abroad in several places: Rome, Italy; Salamanca, Spain; and Leiden, the Netherlands. In 2008 I earned the Award of Excellence in Latin and in 2010 the J. Curtiss Austin Latin Prize, among other accolades.

Since my graduation from Leiden University in 2011, I have taught Latin, Spanish, History, and Success Skills for 9 years to middle school and high school students. As an Expert Lecturer for Semester at Sea’s Enrichment Voyage 2014 around northern Europe, I also had the opportunity to create and deliver my own course on mythology, teaching both college students and lifelong learners about Greco-Roman, Celtic, Norse, and Slavic mythology. I love teaching and discussing academic concepts with people of all ages, and I love to inspire scholars to achieve their best.

When not teaching in my classroom, I love to read and sing to my three-year-old daughter, Nora, and my one-year-old daughter, Roswitha, in Dutch, English, Spanish, and Latin. I love being a mom and doing fun, educational activities with my children, from dancing with them and drawing Disney characters for them to going on strolls in the park and swimming in the pool with them. I also enjoy traveling, playing piano, exploring nature, and oil painting. My personal goal is to help as many people as possible discover their love for learning!
