Welcome to the Instrumental Music Program!

Heritage Academy instrumental music classes aim to build a solid foundation of technical skills, a working knowledge of music theory, an appreciation of history and culture, and the confidence for independent musicianship.

At our Maricopa campus, we are excited to offer a variety of instrumental class selections including bands, orchestras, and Japanese drumming! Use the menu to find your class, under which you can view the syllabus and upcoming assignments for that class.

About the Director

Mr. Berry is a sinner turned saint by the power of Jesus, a microwaver turned cook with the patience of his wife, and a piano-plunker turned musician through the tireless efforts of many dedicated teachers. He earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the School of Music at Arizona State University where he studied oboe and refined his skills in the western art music tradition. For over twelve years, Mr. Berry also studied and performed taiko and shinobue (Japanese drumming and flute) with Fushicho Daiko Dojo in Phoenix, having two separate opportunities to travel to Japan to study and perform pieces in their cities of origin. His childhood dream was to play the trombone, and he still believes that someday he will.

When he’s not at work, Mr. Berry enjoys testing new recipes, developing board games with his wife, spending time with friends and family, and discussing life with anyone who’s willing to share their story. He likes his tea unsweetened and his coffee black, and he loves the mountains and the forest. Mr. Berry feels tremendously blessed to be the Instrumental Director at Heritage Academy in Maricopa, and he is excited to make music with the Heroes!
