German Language Week

German Language Week Review

By Adam Dacho

Sprechen Sie Deutsch? Do you speak German? In Heritage International School we DO and we enjoy it a lot.

From 24th to 28th February we had the German Language Week in our school. Many interesting events and activities were prepared for the Heritage students and German language learners. We liked all of them, however, I enjoyed the German Brain Ring and the German Olympiade the most.

German Brain Ring or “Deutch lernen muss Spass machen” contest was big fun. It was a quiz themed contest where we made 4 teams and competed in answering different questions on culture, geography, music, traditions and life of German-speaking countries. It took place on 25th February in the school auditorium.

Altogether the contest had 3 rounds. The 1st round was about culture, many questions were like What is the population of Germany? and What composer made this song?.We had a presentation where the quiz was displayed and each of the teams wrote their answer on their answer sheet.

The team that did the worst got eliminated and did not participate anymore.

In the 2nd round we had questions related to grammar. The 3rd round was about vocabulary and ability to construct words. Before the 2nd round some students (like me) recited a poem in German. Students also sang German songs and gave speeches about the importance of German language in Europe these days.

The German Olympiade took place on 27th February. This time our knowledge of German language was tested in a more difficult way. They gave us grammar tests and we had to complete them. It was kind of hard but we managed to do it.

All the success of the event belongs to our inspirational German teacher Ms Olga Isaac who organised the German Week and we want to give her a big shoutout! I hope next year you will participate too!
