Term 6 2526 Herbert Morrison Newsletter Issue 71 Thursday 18th June 2026
Dear Parents and Carers,
Our Value of the Week is Friendship — a perfect value for this time of year. Year 6 are reflecting on friendships built over many years, while also preparing to make new ones. Across the school, we are reminding children that being a good friend starts with treating others as we would like to be treated.
What a fantastic Sports Day! Thank you to everyone who came along to support, cheer, run and join in the fun. The weather was kind, the excitement was electric, and the team spirit was wonderful to see.
A special shout-out also goes to our cheerleading parents and their amazing banners. Do take a look at the Sports Day video on Instagram — and no, it has not been sped up. Coach Max and Mr Dav really do run that fast!
A huge thank you to Miss Evans, our PE Lead, for organising such a brilliant event. She is already planning how to make next year even better — so start limbering up now!
Speaking of Miss Evans, we have some very exciting news to share — she is getting married over the summer! She would be very grateful for our help. If you have a clean jar at home, please remove the label and bring it into Year 1. As the jars are glass, we would prefer younger children not to carry them into school themselves. Miss Evans needs around 180 jars for flowers on the day, so every jar will help. I will let you know when we have enough, but for now, please keep them coming. Thank you in advance!
We have lots of trips and visits planned over the next few weeks. Please speak to your child about behaviour expectations and staying safe when they are off site, so everyone can enjoy these experiences together.
Next up is the Summer Fete Football Match. Please sign up if you would like to take part. I will be playing too — well, it is the World Cup after all, so surely watching football counts as research!
Thank you also for the pupil feedback. The children shared thoughtful views and some great ideas for us to work on. Have a look below to see what they had to say.
Please note that the final day menu will be different from the published plan. Year 6 have chosen their favourite dishes and designed a special leavers’ menu — more details are in the newsletter.
One final point - please have a look at the hot weather poster below - the weather is expected to get warmer and warmer over the next couple of weeks. Please apply sun cream to your child before school and send your child in with a wide breamed hat - with their name on! As the weather wamrs up - jumpers come off - it is essential that your child's clothes are all named.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support and friendship.
Kind regards,
Mrs Peake
Headteacher
You Said, We Did!
Expanding Enrichment: We are rolling out a clear, termly clubs menu featuring expanded options for sports, arts, music, and STEM to match pupil requests next year.
Boosting Wellbeing: We are re-launching our ZUMOS portal routines to ensure mental health tools remain highly visible and easy for all age groups to use.
Sharpening Safety: We are refreshing student-facing routines regarding playground boundaries, gate access, lockdown and fire drills to ensure total confidence across all year groups.
❤️ A Final Note from Leadership:
Hearing directly from our pupils is the most valuable tool we have to ensure our school remains a happy, thriving place to grow. We want to thank every child for sharing their brilliant thoughts, and we look forward to bringing our new "You Said, We Did" initiatives to life next term!

Today, our local MET police are on site delivering a Cyber Safe workshop with Years 5 and 6.
The children are learning important ways to stay safe online, make sensible choices and know what to do if something worries them.
Parents and carers — ask your child these 3 questions today:
What is one way you can keep yourself safe online?
Who should you speak to if something online makes you feel worried?
What did you learn today that you think every child should know?
A big thank you to our visiting MET Police officers for supporting our children with such an important topic. 💻👮♀️👮♂️

A Reminder About Appointments and Holidays
We kindly ask that, wherever possible, parents arrange medical or personal appointments for their children outside of school hours. There are only 190 school days in the year, but a generous 175 non-school days available for holidays, family time, and events. By keeping appointments to these non-school days, we can work together to make sure every child enjoys the very best attendance and learning opportunities. Thank you for your support!
📢 Illness Reminder 📢
If your child is unwell at school, we will call you to collect them. Please ensure we have your up-to-date contact details.
Please remember to inform the school of your child's absence each day; even if the school knows they are home due to vomiting - this is to update school if new symptoms develop. The best way to do this is via Studybugs.
Currently, 70% of parents are using Studybugs—if you’re among the 30% who haven’t signed up yet, please do so as soon as possible!
Please download the STUDY BUGS app and support us in raising our attendance %.
Overall we are at 95.3% for this academic year. With your help we aim to maintain this to the end of the year. Please download the STUDY BUGS app and support us in raising our attendance %.
Please help your child achieve by ensuring they are in school when they are well enough to be here.
Medical Appointment Documentation
Please ensure all appointments are made outside of school hours.
To help us accurately record absences, please email a copy of any medical appointment texts or appointment cards to the school office for confirmation when your child(ren) is absent for health-related reasons. This ensures their attendance records are kept up-to-date.
When making appointments please ask your doctors for a medical slip or appointment text to give to school.
Thank you for your cooperation and support.

The questions of the week are-
Is it harder to make a friend or to keep a friend?
Can you be friends with someone who has hurt your feelings?
Is a good friend someone who always agrees with you?
We discuss the values and question of the week in assembly. Discuss these with your child at home.
The value of the week is: FRIENDSHIP
Please ALWAYS check and follow the age restrictions for all social media platforms. Just like age ratings on films, books and games, these restrictions are in place to help keep children safe. It is your responsibility to enforce these at home and ensure your child is using online platforms safely.
Keeping Teenagers Safe Online - Bit Defender
Online safety guidance tends to group all under-18s together, which means it's often too broad to be genuinely useful, especially with teenagers.
Younger children may accept boundaries set by adults without much pushback. Adolescents are different. As they develop their own sense of agency, well-intentioned advice from parents and teachers can quickly become background noise. Getting teenagers to follow online safety guidance is one challenge; getting them to internalise it is quite another.
Bitdefender has published some practical thinking on how to approach this with teenagers specifically. Find out more by following the link below:
As part of this, please consider the following safety checks:
Do you know your child’s passwords for the apps and platforms they use?
Do you regularly check their browsing history, messages, and online activity?
Do you supervise the amount of time your child spends online and what they are accessing?
Do you have parental controls or safety settings in place on ALL devices and apps?
SPECIAL DIETRY REQUIREMENTS
If your child has an allergy please scan this code and ensure that you complete the new caters online information. We have passed over the information we have and it is all going digital now. Please feel free to speak to a member of staff if you need any support with this.
All allergy referals must be accompanied by medical evidence.
Thank you.

Dessert: Chocolate Cake and Chocolate Custard
It is crucial that I hear from children in every school and college, in every community, across the country. Without hearing from your students, their experiences, views and aspirations risk being missing from the national picture that will help shape future policy.
At a time of significant change for children and young people, it is more important than ever that their views are reflected in policy making. Through this survey, I can take the voices of your students directly to the centre of government.
LEARNING AT HOME - TEACH YOUR CHILD ABOUT MONEY - HANDLE IT, COUNT IT, WORK OUT THE CHANGE. MONOPOLY AND PLAYING SHOPS IS GREAT FUN!
More information and a weekly update of these low cost suggestions can be found on the Oval Learning Cluster Website - Families Page. Our School works in Partnership with the Oval Learning Cluster.
For information on how to sign up to Terms 5 and 6 Clubs at HM see the clubs letter on the website.
Please note that club payments are non-refundable. If your child is not behaving in the club they may lose their place. Thank you for your support.
