Use a photograph for reference if you plan on doing a real person or a character
start by making your paper form
add clay to the head, neck & shoulders and smooth
add a piece of clay to create the forehead and a coil of clay to the back of the skull to define the cranium
add a piece of clay to the jawline and then smooth the jaw and the forehead to create a flat platform
begin adding facial features and hair
add any additional items or texture to make your portrait unique.
