CREATING
Practice the artistic process by researching, brainstorming, and planning to create works of art.
Generate and conceptualize artistic ideas and work
RESPONDING
Create a written response to works of art through various approaches.
CONCEPTS:
What strategies do artists use to effectively communicate their artistic intentions?
What role do experimentation, practice, and persistence play in developing artistic skills and exploring ideas?
Gather found materials such as paper, containers, cardboard, magazines, and other available items. Separate the materials by color.
Brainstorm ideas to create a design inspired by nature. Sketch a draft of the design on paper. Repeat and overlap various sizes of the design to add movement.
Transfer the image to a surface of choice by either freehanding it or using the transfer method. Add additional elements to the design to enhance movement and repetition.
Begin selecting materials for each section of the design. Decide how color can be repeated to create movement throughout the design.
Cut out pieces of the found objects to fit into each section of the design. Attach the pieces to each section, ensuring the image contrasts from the background through the colors, values, or textures of the materials. Repeat colors and shapes to create movement.
Add items to raise the surface of chosen areas to add dimension to the artwork.
Write an artist statement explaining how materials affect the meaning of artwork and how current events impact the availability of art supplies. (use the color and composition critique worksheet for this step)
