CONNECTING
Make interdisciplinary connections, expanding upon and applying art skills and knowledge to enhance other areas of learning.
Utilize a variety of resources to understand how artistic learning extends beyond the walls of the classroom
CREATING
Use technology in the production of original works of art.
Engage in an array of processes, media, techniques, and/or technology through experimentation, practice, and persistence.
CONCEPTS

What role do persistence and experimentation play in overcoming challenges in the art-making process?
Artwork by Marc Chagall
Brainstorm and sketch a setting from a fariytale in atmospheric view. Consider the village, castle, houses around the castle, magical creatures, etc.
Research popular literature and/or movies that have included the use of magical villages. Compose the background of the magical village by layering and gluing pieces of cardboard. Include features like mountains, village houses, clouds, and/or bodies of water.
Compose the middle ground of the magical village by drawing and cutting out shapes like houses and magical creatures. Consider if the castle will be in the foreground or middle ground and create the castle, if needed. Glue these pieces on top of the background.
Compose the foreground of the magical village by drawing and cutting out more houses, magical creatures, and/or people. Glue cut objects on top of the middle ground. Optional: Paint the objects and then glue them together. Reflect with peers on color and elements of design.
Paint with a focus on the elements of art and principles of design to create an atmosphere of a magical place. Paint at least 30% or all of the cardboard pieces.
Add additional details to various parts of the magical village to enhance contrast and visibility using a pen. Analyze the similarities and differences of the final 3D artwork with that of the original 2D thumbnail drawing and a hypothetical digital version.
